With levels of brightness dramatically altering mood and feel, it’s important to invest in kitchen lighting ideas which provide good task lighting, as well as creating the ideal ambience. A good kitchen lighting scheme needs at least two elements: bright, shadow-free, task light for safe cooking and preparation. Along with atmospheric illumination to create mood, highlight architectural features and make the room feel less functional.
More light to prepare food. The lighting under the kitchen unit must be intense enough so that it is not dark under the line. Illuminate the work surface so that you can see well when cooking, slicing, mixing dough, or preparing dinner.
Below the line, select the “white colour” of the light. When buying a light, choose according to the “light colour”. Under the kitchen unit, LED lighting with a white light colour is most suitable, because it guarantees you the most faithful colour rendering. The food thus looks natural as in daylight.
Power of 12 watts per meter is the minimum. You do not want to be dark under the kitchen counter, choose the light also according to the power. We recommend using a luminaire with a power of at least 12 watts per meter to illuminate the work area.
First, answer the question of how big the kitchen is at all and what you mainly use the kitchen for. The central LED kitchen light should have sufficient power. For a larger kitchen, choose an LED light over 70 W, for smaller kitchens, we recommend purchasing an LED luminaire with a power of up to 50 watts. For larger kitchens over 20 m2, it will be better to reach for LED lighting with a power of over 70 watts, while the value of individual lighting fixtures is added together.
It depends on the colour of the lights? When you spend a minimum of time in the kitchen and occasionally cook something, it will be advisable to look at the LED light, which glows with the daily neutral colour, i.e. 4000K. (see a post“ Tips for Choosing LED Lighting Temperature”) It works better with such light. However, if you use the kitchen more as a common room, it will be appropriate to reach for a lamp with a warm white colour. The trade-off is lighting with variable color lighting temperature.
Plenty of light when eating or reading.
In a small kitchen, you usually don’t have to worry about special lighting above the dining table. This is because the central kitchen light usually illuminates it well if the table is directly below it. However, if you feel that it is dark at the table, it is time to look for a separate lamp, which will brighten your moments at the table with a pleasantly warm light.
Yellow makes dining more pleasant, warm white is better to read.
Choose the colour of the light according to what you do most often at the table. If you only eat at the table, choose a light white light with a slightly yellow tint. However, if you also often read or write at the kitchen table, you should reach for a lamp with bright daylight. Another alternative is to choose a lamp or a bulb that contains all the mentioned functions. This means with variable colour settings from 2800K (yellowish light) to 5000K (bluish light). I personally do not recommend a higher light temperature than 5000K, but it is a matter of individual taste.
